We are not the sum of our struggles, mistakes, sins, shortcomings. When we are in Jesus, when He is our Savior, we are clothed in His blood and righteousness. We are new creations that reflect His fruit. He sees us through His eyes of love; He sees us as He created us to be. Yes, He corrects, disciplines, guides…so that we will better reflect Him in this world, but He loves us completely with a love that is too great for us to fathom…just as we are. We can take hold of that love and live securely in Him as we walk along the paths He establishes for us…as He holds us securely with His righteous right hand. We don’t have to fix our eyes on our weaknesses, failures, and defects. But rather, we can see who we are, right now, through His eyes of love and grace. We are His righteousness because of Who He is not because of what we do.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. Isaiah 41:10
I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely. Psalm 63:8
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22-23
Jesus Calling by Sarah Young July 13, 2015
I want you to experience the riches of your salvation: the joy of being loved constantly and perfectly. You make a practice of judging yourself, based on how you look or behave or feel. If you like what you see in the mirror, you feel a bit more worthy of My Love. When things are going smoothly and your performance seems adequate, you find it easier to believe you are My beloved child. When you feel discouraged, you tend to look inward so you can correct whatever is wrong.
Instead of trying to “fix” yourself, fix your gaze on Me, the Lover of your soul. Rather than using your energy to judge yourself, redirect it to praising Me. Remember that I see you clothed in My righteousness, radiant in My perfect Love.
In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. —Ephesians 2:7–8
Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. —Hebrews 3:1
Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. —Psalm 34:5
